Permanent labels
Why an FA number survives a redesign, a repair, and even a closed drawer.
An FA number names one artifact for the life of the Cabinet. The title may gain punctuation. A release may need repair. The number stays put.
Stable labels make records useful. A player can report FA-002 without guessing which game shares a title. A curator can file a capture beside its rights notes. The workshop can compare a new build with the release it replaces.
Some old drawers have playable files but no recovered source. Their numbers remain valid while the releases stay frozen. We keep those artifacts searchable in the Archive and keep them away from the reviewed Core. Recovery starts with source, dependencies, and licenses inside one owned game folder.
The label records continuity rather than rank. A high number can reach the Core before a low one. Review changes where you encounter an artifact; it does not rewrite the catalog.
